Alexios Justinian, also known as Strategos Alexios, General Alexios, or Alexios I is the present leader of the Theme of Nikopolis. Having been born in the Old Empire which the Nikephorans claim to descend from, Alexios became the chosen leader via election of the Alexiad Expedition sent by the Old Empire to discover and colonize new lands in the hope of preserving their culture and traditions from the imminent collapse of their homeland. He has led Nikopolis from its inception in the year 11, though his reign was stagnated by a long illness which kept him away from leadership between the years 16 and 23, though he did eventually recover. Since his recovery, Alexios has established the Public Forum, enabling the citizenry to debate about issues both foreign and domestic to Nikopolis.

Biography

Personal Life

Alexios married his long-time lover, Lucia of Ostopolis, in the 12th year. The pair had courted since their mid-teenage years and had become betrothed after they had both turned eighteen following Alexios' early career as a legionario. Lucia claimed descent from the upper class as the daughter of a powerful Cataphract in the Old Empire. Six years later, in the 18th year, the pair would have their first child; Calliope Justinian, a healthy girl who is, at present, the couple's only child and heir to the Justinian family fortune. She is noted as having been the first Nikephoran to be born on the new continent.
