This article is not about the War Rules themselves.
ModernWar is a Knightspire native system for managing wars. It is used by Staff and War Masters to manage Tiles, Belligerents, Battles and enforces rules.
The plugin is not directly operated by regular players, and it is not an automatic replacement for war judgement.
ModernWar is mainly controlled through its GUI.

To create a tile, open /war and select Create new tile. ModernWar will ask for a tile name in chat.
After choosing a name, the draw setup menu can be used to set the tile's status, type and color. Closing the menu lets the War Monitor begin drawing the tile.
Drawing is done by placing the provided banner markers in order around the desired tile shape. Once at least three markers have been placed, open /war again and select Finish Tile Creation.
When a tile is created, ModernWar briefly shows its border. Belligerents and War Masters see relevant tile information in the Action bar.

Before a battle can start, ModernWar requires:

The selected battle tile must be CONTESTED. A War Master may either set this beforehand through tile management or use Declare Tile in the Battle Control menu.
During a battle, ModernWar creates a 32x32 capture zone in the center of the contested tile. The active battle is displayed through a Bossbar.
Attackers and Defenders move the boss bar or score by either uncontested presence in the capture zone, or by killing their opponents. If the battle timer expires, it ends in a draw.
War Masters may extend or deduct time from the battle at any point.

The battle system follows the regular War Rules. ModernWar tracks the battle state, but War Masters are still responsible for enforcing judgment calls and rule context.
Item Bans and Confiscation
ModernWar can enforce banned items for Belligerents. If a Belligerent uses or equips a banned item while that ban is active, the item is removed from their inventory. The player and online War Masters are notified.
Once the offending player is no longer a Belligerent, a War Master may restore the confiscated items. Restoring returns the item to the player's inventory if they are online. If they are offline, the item is returned to the War Master handling the restoration.

Building Ban
ModernWar also includes a building ban for Belligerents. When enabled, Belligerents cannot freely place or break blocks during enforcement.
Some blocks are allowed, such as beds, shulker boxes and doors. The plugin also features best effort trap escape behavior, i.e. being stuck in a 1x2 hole.
