The Lordship of Piotrgrod is a militaristic warlord state located in the Rotfeld Plains, just north of Ledtshov. Founded by warlord Piotr Wojnik, the nation emerged from the largely unorganized nomadic tribes that settled in the steppe. Built from the ground up in the fortified settlement of Piotrgrod, the lordship is one of the first organized nations to establish itself within the region, with other neighboring tribes undeveloped. Against all odds, Piotrgrod has rapidly expanded through military campaigns, diplomacy, and the annexation of the neighboring settlements of Tomaszłan and The Hub. Being located near the center of the Rotfeld plains, Piotrgrod's stratigic location has allowed it to project influence across much of the surrounding area, being stopped by the river that flows towards the Drachenmeer.

Etymology

The lordship derives its name from its founder, Piotr Wojnik, with Piotrgrod roughly translating to "Piotr's City" or "Piotr's Settlement." As the settlement grew after various military conquests, Piotrgrod soon became the political center of the emerging state, with various freshly conquered cities being named after the warlord.

History

Settlement

Originating from the fortified settlement of Piotrgrod, the Lordship had humble beginnings in the Rotfeld Plains. Originally constructed as a temporary military stronghold, the settlement quickly became a refuge for nearby nomadic tribes and travellers seeking protection from the instability of the surrounding steppe. As the population of the city steadily grew, and nearby villages pledging their allegiances to Wojnik, Piotrgrod soon developed into the first major organized settlement in the region.

War with Tomaszłan

As Piotrgrod expanded its influence across the region, conflict became inevitable with the neighboring tribes. One of the most significant military campaigns in the early stages of expansion was fought against the nation of Tomaszłan, who opposed the slow growth of Piotrgrod and its encroachment into their lands. Soon forced into a gruelling defensive war, the Lordship consolidated its forces and soon managed a decisive military victory in the Battle of Piotrgrod. Following the lack of supplies and heavy casualties, Tomaszłan was soon forced to capitulate, leaving the Lordship complete dominance over the surrounding plains, and securing Piotrgrod's position as the dominant military power of the region.

Annexation of The Hub

Following the mysterious disappearance of Sir Kemtek, the merchant settlement known as The Hub descended into anarchy. Viewing the instability in the settlement as both a threat to his rule and an opportunity, Piotr Wojnik soon marched into the settlement with his army and declared it under the protection of the Lordship of Piotrgrod. The annexation granted the lordship control over the trade city, strengthening its economy.

Consolidation of Power

With much of the surrounding territory brought under Piotrgrod's control, Piotr Wojnik soon shifted his attention to governing the war-torn areas of the Rotfeld. Existing settlements were directly annexed into the lordship, and soon renamed after the victorious warlord. Efforts were then directed to the construction of fortifications and accumulation of wealth, turning the once poor nation into a wealthy regional power, with Piotr in its helm.

Geography

Piotrgrod is located in the open fields of the Rotfeld Plains, a region consisting of the harsh steppes, sparse forests, and rivers. Due to the mostly flat terrain, individuals travelling across the Rotfeld favour mounts such as Horses. As such, horses have become a cultural staple in Piotrgrod, shaping both the military traditions and daily life of the inhabitants. Located south of the Rotfeld lie the Westfeld Plains, with a major river that separates the lordship from more established civilizations, while travelling westwards would eventually be met with a dense forest, separating the Eastern and Western continents.

Administrative divisions

The Lordship of Piotrgrod is administered directly from the capital. Rather than establishing provinces, the territory conquered by Piotr are directly annexed by the warlord to be governed through the capital.
