Player Guide

If you are reading this, you have likely joined Knightspire, a medieval roleplay server centered around geopolitics, collective writing, and low fantasy. This is the player guide for Knightspire, to make your life on the server easier by introducing you to the server's basic philosophy and in-game systems.

This guide exists to help new players understand:

  • what Knightspire is,
  • how the world functions,
  • what makes the server different,
  • and how to play effectively.

What is Knightspire?

Knightspire is a player-driven medieval roleplay server built around:

  • nations and politics,
  • diplomacy and warfare,
  • trade and economics,
  • national roleplay,
  • long-term worldbuilding,
  • and persistent history.

The server is designed around the idea that:

  • actions have consequences,
  • scarcity drives geopolitics,
  • and the world should feel grounded and immersive.

Knightspire is not a minigame server, faction grinder, seasonal reset server, or a PvPer's playground. Playing on Knightspire is less about winning and dominating against other players, and more about working together to make a good story.

Core Principles

Persistence

Your work is intended to matter long-term.

Your kingdoms, cultures, races, literature, events are meant to stay relevant on the server, like they would in real life. Roleplay that comes out of the first few months of the server's existence will dictate how the rest of time on Knightspire will go.

Grounded Low Fantasy

The setting is medieval low fantasy:

  • restrained magic,
  • grounded aesthetics,
  • believable societies,
  • and interesting politics.

Consequence

Your characters are the sums of their choices and actions.

Wars, crimes, diplomacy, betrayal, and leadership decisions all have lasting effects, you cannot expect to do something grand and it leave no consequence on the server as a whole, if you do something others dislike, you cannot be surprised that those other players reciprocate these actions.

Starting Your Journey

When first joining:

  • you will spawn in the world through the Emerge system,
  • your spawn location is completely random,
  • and you receive a one time 24 hour /tpa access to join your friends.

From there, most players:

  • join an existing settlement or nation,
  • travel,
  • or establish their own communities.

You are encouraged to:

  • speak with other players,
  • explore,
  • and learn the political landscape before committing to a nation.

Nations and Politics

Knightspire revolves heavily around nations and nation-like entities. Most major activity occurs through:

  • nations,
  • guilds,
  • religious institutions,
  • mercenary companies,
  • noble houses,
  • and political alliances.

Political or national roleplay is a major part of the server, secondary to it is character roleplay, where players act as characters separate from their nations, though whilst they roleplay as characters alone, they must adapt to the events around them, and cannot ignore large scale roleplay that persists in the world, such as wars, famines, conflicts, et cetera.

Warfare

Main article: ModernWar

War exists as a structured and meaningful system on Knightspire. Aside from player agreements and development of unowned territories, wars are the main way for one player or nation to obtain land from one another.

The server uses a custom system called ModernWar to support:

  • organized battles,
  • territorial conflicts,
  • military campaigns,
  • and strategic progression.

Wars are intended to:

  • create history,
  • alter political landscapes,
  • and produce meaningful consequences.

Random destruction and purposeless aggression are not the focus of the server, Knightspire is not a Factions server.

Plugin Systems

Knightspire uses a large number of custom-built (bespoke) plugins designed specifically for the server. All custom plugins on the server were made by Scarlet.

Armory

Main article: Armory

A complete overhaul of Minecraft progression and enchanting.

Features include:

  • reworked equipment progression,
  • a custom enchanting system,
  • and modified repair mechanics,

Vanilla enchanting and progression should not be assumed to work normally. You cannot use an enchanting table, enchanted books are practically useless, and hoarding XP means nothing, and progression is locked primarily behind resources and their abundance. You should hoard diamonds.

HiddenOre

Resources are obtained through active mining, and not caving. Default ore spawns have been removed entirely.

This system:

  • allows quartz and custom resources to be mined in the overworld seamlessly,
  • provides chance-based resource gains that improve with better equipment,
  • is intended to level the playing field a bit between different mining strategies.

MedievalFarming

Farming is a long-term agricultural process.

Features:

  • biome-dependent crop growth,
  • persistent crop progression,
  • slower agricultural cycles,
  • and more strategic food production.

Agriculture becomes a meaningful economic activity rather than an instant resource source.

MedievalForestry

Tree growth varies by biome and environment.

Forestry operations require:

  • planning,
  • land management,
  • and sustainable harvesting.

MedievalHusbandry

Animal breeding and livestock management are more complex and realistic.

Features:

  • biome-dependent animal behavior,
  • slower breeding,
  • and environmental limitations.

MedievalFishing

Fishing is slower and more location-dependent.

Rivers and proper fishing locations produce better results than small ponds or random water sources.

ModernWar

Knightspire’s custom warfare management system.

This plugin supports:

  • battle organization,
  • campaign management,
  • and structured warfare administration.

Honor

A visible reputation system based on player behavior.

Your actions may influence how others perceive and interact with you.

NationTags

Allows groups to establish visible national or organizational identities.

Acropolis

A custom dungeon and PvE system.

These areas are intended to provide:

  • exploration,
  • danger,
  • valuable resources,
  • and cooperative challenges.

Building and Aesthetics

Knightspire values grounded medieval aesthetics.

Players are expected to avoid:

  • modern architecture,
  • unrealistic megastructures,
  • immersion-breaking builds,
  • and low-effort construction.

Settlements should reflect:

  • geography,
  • culture,
  • economics,
  • and political status.

The world is intended to look like a believable civilization rather than disconnected player bases.

Roleplay Expectations

Players are expected to:

  • remain within the tone of the setting,
  • avoid modern behavior and references,
  • respect continuity,
  • and treat the world seriously.

Roleplay does not require constant character acting in chat, but the world and your actions should remain believable.

Survival and Progression

Progression on Knightspire is intentionally slower than vanilla Minecraft.

This is by design.

The server emphasizes:

  • specialization,
  • cooperation,
  • trade,
  • logistics,
  • and institutional organization.

You are not expected to become self-sufficient immediately.

Communities matter.

Community Conduct

Knightspire is built around collaborative worldbuilding.

Players should aim to:

  • create meaningful stories,
  • contribute to the world,
  • and strengthen the setting for others.

The objective is not merely to “win,” but to create a believable and enduring world together.
